It is no secret that SMU is home some of the world’s most beautiful collegiates. I remember vividly visiting campus for the first time as a high school senior and noticing the girls had impeccable hair, makeup and fashion sense. Now that I am a senior, I think I have a pretty good grasp of what makes an SMU girl tick.
Girls at this university need certain things in life to make them happy–Northpark Mall, good margaritas, Drybar and a great handbag–or ten. While these things are essential parts of the lives of the beautiful students at this university, there is one thing that SMU girls absolutely cannot live without: the latest workout craze. Being that I live in a sorority house filled with 38 girls, I hear it all: Zubma, Soul Cycle, Yoga and more. I must admit, having grown up playing organized team sports, I was initially hesitant to try any of these trends. After all, I had stayed in good shape all of these years simply running or swimming laps.
At the beginning of this year, I made a senior year resolution to get into fantastic shape. My plan includes eating well and getting in peak physical form. In order to start my year off on the right track, I decided to try Pure Barre, one of the growing fitness trends for women in the U.S.
Pure Barre is a total body workout that focuses on toning your butt and thighs in record time. Its initial concept came from the tiny yet effective movements that dancers utilize while at a ballet barre. The workout also focuses on other areas that women struggle with, including abs, arms, seat and hips.
I must admit that after two weeks, I am completely hooked on Pure Barre. Its location on Greenville Avenue makes it extremely accessible, and the classes are offered many time during the day which makes it much easier for me to fit a great workout into my busy schedule. Though Barre costs more than simply running on the Katy Trail, I have found that the group atmosphere and enthusiastic instructors have helped me get the most out of my workout time.
I am excited to say that I have decided to extend my Pure Barre membership to another month. I leave for Las Vegas for Fall Break a month from tomorrow, so why not? For now, I will just have to tuck my abs and squeeze my thighs and enjoy my current workout obsession, Pure Barre.
